Today in Grade Two
A notice was sent home today about our class's Brag Tag positive reinforcement program. Students receive brag tags throughout the year during special occasions, to celebrate birthdays, and to recognize good behavior. Each student has a necklace that he or she keeps at school and on Friday students get to wear their necklaces if they so choose. Today we also conducted a Saving Sam STEM activity in Science. Students had to rescue Sam the gummy worm who had lost his lifejacket. Using only paper clips, students worked together to rescue Sam and put the lifejacket back on him! The kids LOVED it! Thank you for the donations! I really appreciate your generosity!

First Day Fun!
Today we read First Day Jitters and Wemberley Worried. Then we created a pictograph of our first day feelings. In the afternoon, the whole second grade had a lemonade social. Students were able to mix with their friends from other classrooms, and have the opportunity to make new friends. Despite the heat, it was a great day all in all!

Suggested Second Grade Supply List for 2E
SUGGESTED SECOND GRADE SUPPLY LIST
This year I am asking for community supplies. A community supply
system is one in which students share the supplies donated. I keep all of the
supplies in easily accessible areas for everyday use.
This system also helps
foster a sense that the classroom and everything in it belong to everyone. Additionally,
it helps children learn how to share and cooperate, and it ensures that all
children have what they need.
I also do understand that many students are eager to purchase some supplies for themselves, so the following items students may bring in for their own use:
1 pencil box or case labeled with their name on it
1 box of 12-24 count crayons or colored pencils
1 folder labeled with their name on it that will be used as a take home folder

Summer School Shenanigans!
We have been doing a LOT of STEM activities and team-building activities this summer at the Summer Academy at Northwest School. I hope to incorporate some of these ideas with my second grade class at JA this year.
