Did you know there are three different ways to name the same number? The kids learning about expanded form, standard (numeral) form, and written form this week. Miss Justice led a wonderful lesson for the students and her supervisor from Fitchburg State University last week. Hats off to Miss Justice for the excellent job she is doing in our class!
We have been working hard to promote kindness in our classroom. This week students were visited by Mrs. Gingras, who read a story and then led an activity in which students were given a pebble and had to place it in a bowl of water to see how it rippled. Students also stated what act of kindness they have done recently. We also made friendship valentines for our writing buddies, in addition to being secret valentine buddies to students in our own class.
The Drop Everything And Write school-wide event took place on Friday, February 7th. Our writing buddies are students in Mrs. Gilchrist's fifth grade classroom. The topic was compare and contrast. Fifth graders helped guide students in our class as they compared and contrasted two birthdays from two passages they had previously read.
In January and February we have been learning all about how rain and wind can effect the soil. Students worked in pairs to create mountains and then made it rain. The result? Rain can create areas of streams on mountains or cause canyons to occur depending upon whether the land is mountainous or flat!
