Creating a Story Map

Throughout the year students will be practicing several essential skills to being able to analyze text. Last week students spent time looking at and creating story maps to retell a story. Students learned about the setting, main characters, and events in a story. Later in the year we will use this as a springboard to learn about problems and solutions in a piece of fiction.

Arrays and Repeated Addition

The second graders began the long journey toward learning multiplication last week by learning how to build arrays and create repeated addition sentences. In class students used counters and dice to create arrays. They also worked in centers using activity cards to create number sentences.

Thank you to Tomatoes Pizza and Daddy's Best Pizza!

Tomatoes Pizza and Daddy's Best Pizza recently donated several pizza boxes to the class so the students could set up their memory boxes. These boxes will hold special papers the students will work on throughout the year and then they will bring them home in June. You will be able to take a look at the boxes at Open House on September 17th!
