IT WOULDN'T BE A FIELD TRIP UNLESS YOU SAW A SNAKE SLITHERING BY YOU ON A TRAIN RIDE

I'VE BEEN HAPPY TO GO ON THE FIELD TRIP TO SOUTHWICK FOR MANY YEARS. EVERY YEAR WE GO ON THE TRAIN RIDE, AND EVERY YEAR WE GO BY A POND AND SWAMPY AREA. EACH TIME I GO ON THE TRAIN RIDE I SEE SOME SORT OF SNAKE SLITHERING BY. THIS YEAR WAS NO EXCEPTION. I WISH I HAD A PICTURE BUT I WILL TELL YOU IT WAS BLACK AND ORANGE. I THINK IT JUST KNEW WE WERE COMING!!! WE ALSO HAD CANADIAN GEESE BLOCKING THE TRAIN AS WELL AS AN ANIMAL THAT LOOKED LIKE A MOOSE ONLY A BIT SMALLER. WE HAD A FANTASTIC TRIP. ALL OF THE KIDS WERE VERY WELL BEHAVED AND ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. THE WEATHER COULDN'T HAVE BEEN BETTER!  HERE ARE SOME PICS FROM THE TRIP. I WILL POST MORE ONCE MY NEW PHONE (IT'S MY HUBBY'S OLD ONE)  IS UP AND RUNNING. THANK YOU TO OUR CHAPERONES FOR PROVIDING US WITH THESE PICTURES!

BUSY WEEK AHEAD!

We have a very busy week ahead in school! On Tuesday, May 16th we will be visited by school committee member Nona Ojala. Nona Ojala has a lot of information to share about the history of Leominster. She will be sharing old photographs of the city and also bringing in artifacts to show the second graders.

On Friday we are going to Southwick Zoo. The weather forecast looks great, and sunscreen is highly recommended! Please make sure that your child wears sunscreen before coming to school, and also brings a bagged lunch and drink. The buses will be leaving after attendance so please make sure that your child comes to school on time. THANK YOU!!!!!!! We will return before bus time in the afternoon! Thank you for all of the returned permission slips, money, and donated money for the trip!!!!

In Science we have just finished our "All About" books focusing on different animals. They will be on display during our Poetry Open Mic on June 2nd. The students worked very hard on the books, and have included a Table of Contents, Glossary, and other important non-fiction features.

This week we are wrapping up our poetry unit. Students have been working for WEEKS on different types of poems including a cinquain, biopoem, color poetry, haiku, and free verse. Once our poetry books are bound, students will be practicing reading them aloud for the Open Mic.

Upcoming Events: Memorial Day Program on May 26. The t-shirts are done and students are rehearsing for the performance!

PLANTS! PLANTS! PLANTS!

Two weeks ago students planted a variety of flowers and vegetables including peas, beans, and sunflowers. We are finding that the beans are growing the fastest, followed by the peas! We have also planted some beans and put them in a dark closet to see if they will grow whether or not they have sunlight. Can't wait to find out if they sprouted over the weekend!

News for the week of May 1

Thank you for all of the t-shirt donations! We are still looking for a few more people to return their two white-shirts to school so that we can decorate them for two upcoming performances.

The last day to turn in a Books and Beyond Sheet is THIS THURSDAY, May 4! Please make sure you turn in your sheets as I want to have 100 percent of the students receive a gold medal in June.

This week in math we are learning how to use a ruler to measure centimeters, and we will also be learning about meters. Last week we learned about inches, feet, and yards.

In reading, students are researching information about one of America's symbols, and using the information to write a paragraph.

In writing, students are working again on their informative book about an animal.

Information is coming home today regarding asking relatives who have served in the military to be honored at our Memorial Day program. If you have a relative who has served and would like to attend, please fill out the information on the sheet and return it to school. The program is always a fantastic display of patriotism and is a great way that our school honors people who serve in any branches of the military.

Historical Downtown Walking Tour

Tomorrow, May 2nd, second graders are going on a walking tour of our downtown community. This will take place rain or shine. Please make sure your child is dressed in comfortable clothes and proper footwear. If you did not sign up for a school lunch, please remember to pack your child's paper bag lunch. Thank you!

FRIYAY!!!!

Happy Friyay! One week left! What an awesome day it is out there! I can't wait for next week! Report cards, FIVE Google Meets (all fun)...
